3 things learned:
1. There are many ways that empires go about conquering and controlling a colony.
2. Imperialism played a huge role in the starting of World War I
3. Science was improving rapidly during this time period
2 things interesting:
1. The different ways in which a colony could be run. They could have more or less freedom depending what ___method of ruling was used.
2. The great impact that imperialism had on everyone who was involved.
1 Question:
1. Would World War I have started when and how it did if imperialism was not going on?

Ghandi Quote
"A 'No' Uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'yes' merely uttered to please, or worse to avoid trouble."I think that this quote means that you will always get more out of telling the truth then you would if you lied. Everyone can trust you if you tell the truth but if you lie then who is to know when you are and are not lying.
I believe this is very true. Telling the truth may mean you are punished at first but you will always end up further than if you were to tell a lie.
European Uprising
Immigrants settled in Madagascar from African, Arabia, and Indonesia. The Merina Kingdom took over the colony in the 1800's. Europeans were welcomed by the Merian Kingdom but the French did not like this idea. In 1896 the French made Madagascar a French colony, until World War II when it became an independent French State. Today Madagascar is completely independent.
Connection Across Time
Suez Canal
The Suez Canal has been used for hundreds of years to save time and money when transporting goods. The current canal is 193 km long making it the longest canal with no locks. There are slim to no accidents in this canal compared to many others. This canal allows for ships to sail between the Mediterranean sea and the Indian Ocean in a lot shorter time. Today Egypt owns and regulates the Suez canal In 2007, 18,193 vessels passed through the canal

How an Empire could take over a colony
Empires could take over an area and create a colony. This new colony was run by the higher power. They got this kind of control over other places by forcing them or negotiating. If the weaker area was in trouble the empire would make it seem to them that they were going to help them. Colonies were often taken advantage of.
Imperialism
Three Reasons why it helped the world:
It was much easier to rid the world of countries that needed a lot of financial help
Helped larger nations to help smaller colonies
These higher powers improved the technology and medicine of the smaller areas

Three reasons why it hurt the world:
Was one of the main reasons for the start of World War 1
Increased tension and Competition between European countries
People felt threatened that their land was going to be taken

The Cell Theory
*This theory was proposed in 1838 by Schleiden and Schwann.
*States the following:
~All life forms are made from one or more cells
~Cells come from pre existing cells
~The cell is the smallest form of life

Edison Invention
Phonograph
What did the Invention do?
The invention made it easier to communicate between others. Edison wanted this machine to be able to produce music for entertainment
When was it invented?
It is said that the Phonograph successfully played mary had a little lamb for the first time on August 12, 1877. Although Edison did not file for a patent December 24, 1877.
How it affected the common person?
This invention affected the common people by allowing them to have a source of entertainment. This did not do very much that the people could not live without.

Introduction
Chapter Ten discussed different imperialism and how it affected different places. It showed the positive and negative affects. This chapter also explained how it was when another country had control over your own. There are many different ways that this is done and they are all displayed within this chapter. Objective: I hope to better Imperialism and how it works throughout this chapter. The impact it had on everyone that was involved and key points about it are also things I would like to learn.
